So various acquaintances, from one of the performing worlds I inhabit, have done quite a bit of photography in various period clothes. Not sure, but it would be fun to do that, if I can ever find the right costume/wear. And lose enough weight.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping to have a chance to do some photography in August at a sort of cooperative shoot - never done one of these, either, but it seems fun.

Musique asked me about my interests:

You have "lapel pins" listed as an interest... Why? Please explain...

So here goes:

Well, I used to actively collect them. The one time I tried to count them, I had over 8000 pins. It's probably over 12000 by now. Why did I start? Well, it began in college, when I joined the 'Rally Committee' at UC Berkeley - at that time, committee members wore a "driving cap"-style hat, and the 'in' thing to do was to put pinback buttons and lapel pins on it to decorate it. So I did that.

After I graduated, I worked in San Francisco, near the convention center, and I used to go over and attend the shows/exhibits quite often, and would pick up the freebies & giveaways just for fun. Much of the time, these were lapel pins, and I got in the habit of looking for them. Friends would also give me pins when they found out I liekd them.

I began to put them on old pairs of jeans to display them. But I gat too many, so now they just live in boxes.

Because I haven't worked near the convention center in eyars, I don't have as much chance to collect pins as I used to... I'm actually thinking I should go through them and put them up for auction on eBay (except for the best ones, which I'll keep).

This post is part of the Interest Meme going around LJ at the moment.
If you want to take part, reply to this entry. I will poke around in your list of interests on your profile and ask you one question about one of them. You wax rhapsodic on the subject of your interest for the edification of all and we'll learn something keen about you. Then you post these instructions in your own journal.

Musique asked me 5 questions:

1. What is your favorite peice to sing?

Wow... This is tougher than it looks to answer...

In a men's chorus, it would have to be "La Pastorella", a men's quartet arrangment composed by Franz Schubert on an Italian poem. First sang this in the Glee Club at Cal Berkeley. (Second would be the Ave Maria by Franz Biebl.)

In a mixed chorus, it would be "Out of the Orient", a Christmas piece by Canadian composer Richard Zgodava. Again, first sang this in the Glee Club at Cal Berkeley.

As a soloist, I'd have to say "Glorious Beer", a Music Hall song I was given my first year at Dickens Fair by Linda Underhill. Second would be "Beautiful Soup", in a version I found from a series of Novello 'school songs' from England.

If you want to hear any of these, let me know, as I have mp3 files I could send you.

2. How long have you and denise been married?

Legally married, it will be 23 years on Sugust 27, a month from now. But we were together for 3 years before we got married, so it's almost like 26, except that I don't see her for 4 months out of the year, so it's really only 16??

3. What got you started at Faire?

Hmmm... Tanya Anguita's boyfriend (at the time) was singing in the acappella group I was in, so I knew her, and she got me in to sing for Linda Underhill & David Springhorn. Linda mentored me in the ways of fair.

4. What book would you recommend to others to read?

Hmmm.. The Complete Adventures of Sherlock Holmes?? Webster's Third International Dictionary?? (the big one)

5. What would you do with a 60sec national run commercial - What would you say?

It would have two parts: the first one to do with the Golden Rule, and its universality.

See http://www.religioustolerance.org/reciproc.htm for one listing of its vaious versons

The second part would be a call for bringing back music and art into elementary & junior high school curricula
