Goodbye, Bear.

I'm sad because Bear the Rat, age 2 years and 10 months, died as I was holding him tonight. It was expected, but still not happy making. These little guys grow on you. Like dogs, it's unconditional love. And that is hard to live up to, even from an 8-ounce rodent.

Sorry darling. My deepest, heartfelt condolences. I've kept three rats in my life so far, each of them immeasurably dear to me. I know how it feels. They live brief, touching little lives. And the are so loving and clever and special. It is hard to know you will lose them so quickly, but still... it is worth it.
